IT may be two weeks until summer officially starts but Perth is set to kick off the weekend with its hottest day in eight months.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the mercury to hit 35 degrees Celcius for the first time since March on Friday, topping off a week of warming temperatures and little rainfall.

Last week, the first glimmer of summer arrived with a 33.8C day on Friday, the hottest day in six months.

But, it has felt like a long winter since temperatures last topped 35C with a 38C day on March 21, the last hoorah of summer weather before a cool spell saw day time temperatures drop as low as just 14.1C on June 7.

Overnight temperatures plummet to a perishing 3.3C on August 10, with some suburbs, including Bickley recording temperatures as low as 2.8C.

This week’s beach weather appears to be a sign of a hot summer ahead. The Bureau has predicted a high chance of above average temperatures in Perth for the next three month and a low chance of rainfall.

Almost half way through November, the rainfall tally is appearing depleted with just 1.8mm of rain falling on the 5th – more than 20mm shy of the November average.

People are being urged to keep watch for snakes in their backyards as the weather warms.
